There’s a letter waiting for you on Newcomen Street.
It was written in 1893. It’s signed with a single letter, “A”, and some of the names in it have faded. Text one word on WhatsApp and it arrives on your phone, along with the first clue.
Snowfields is our new treasure hunt, and it’s free. We made it with Team London Bridge as part of the London Bridge Healthier Streets campaign, to get more people exploring the backstreets around the station. You’ll pass a pocket park, a few rain gardens and some of the oldest corners of Southwark, following A’s trail as you go.
How to play
Go to Newcomen Street, SE1, and find Crol & Co. That’s your start.
Text SNOWSFIELDS to +44 7938 414 051 on WhatsApp.
Follow the clues. Type your answers back. If you get stuck, text “Stuck”.
It takes 30 to 45 minutes and covers about 500 metres, so it fits in a lunch break. The trail ends on Snowsfields, a couple of minutes from Bermondsey Street. Finish it and there’s a free soft drink waiting for you at Well Nest.
Good to know
Is it really free? Yes. We launched alongside our partners, Team London Bridge, so there’s nothing to pay and no booking.
Do I need an app? No. It all runs on WhatsApp.
How many people can play? As many as you like. One person’s phone leads the way, so stick together.
When can I play? It’s available any time after launch!
Who’s it for? Anyone nearby. People who live here, people who work here, and anyone who’s ever walked past these streets on the way to somewhere else.
Made by Secret Streets
We make treasure hunts through the parts of London people walk past. If you enjoy Snowfields, our original hunt runs from London Bridge to Bermondsey, through Tower Bridge and Shad Thames.
